Philip Carey, a club-footed young man gives up his dream of becoming an artist and returns to London to join the medical school. This is where he meets and has a crush on the beautiful, but cold waitress Mildred Rogers.
She refuses him and runs off with another man, but Philip cares for her so deeply, that he is ready to sacrifice everything; including money, pride and career.
